Route: Rocking Z Guest Ranch to Helena, MT
Progress to date (in red):
We spent the morning squeezing out a little more fun at the
Rocking Z Guest Ranch. Saya went out for
a ride on the friendly horse Sugar, while Sho and I went fly fishing with Jack,
one of the ranch hands. Jack was very
kind to Sho, patiently teaching him how to hold the rod and cast (see pics). It was hard to say goodbye to the new friends
we’d made over the past two days, and we didn’t roll out until 2:45 p.m. We cycled 25 miles, much of it on a dirt road
that was dusty, but much better than the alternate route of riding on
Interstate 15. We arrived in Helena at
dinner time and checked into a hotel. After
a morning outdoors on a ranch and an afternoon of cycling, Sho and Saya’s idea
of down time was an hour of swimming.
They fell asleep before I had read two pages out loud from the Journals
of Lewis & Clark.
